Remove old showerhead

Wrap a cloth around the shower arm to protect the finish. Grip the shower arm with one hand (or pliers with cloth) to prevent it from turning. Use the adjustable wrench to turn the showerhead counterclockwise until it comes off.

If the showerhead is stuck, try spraying penetrating oil on the threads and wait 10 minutes.

Don't put too much force on the shower arm - it can break inside the wall.
Clean the threads

Remove old plumber's tape and any buildup from the shower arm threads. Use a small brush or cloth to clean thoroughly.
Apply plumber's tape

Wrap plumber's tape clockwise around the shower arm threads 3-4 times. Keep it tight and overlap slightly. The tape should be smooth, not bunched.

Wrapping clockwise ensures the tape tightens as you screw on the showerhead, rather than bunching up.
Install new showerhead

Thread the new showerhead onto the shower arm by hand, turning clockwise. Once hand-tight, use the wrench (with protective cloth) to tighten another half to full turn. Don't over-tighten.
